Schönbrunn Palace is also my favorite. I’ve been there two times and look forward to visiting again. I haven’t been to the Christmas market there - looks delightful! I’ll have to put that on my list!!
This was lovely to read Clarice, glad I stumbled upon it. I've lived in Vienna since March 2022 and you captured the magic of Schonbrunn so well. It's delightful year round - my personal favourite time of the year is mid-late October. I was there with my daughter two Halloweens ago and it was the perfect spooky day, with fog and mist and it felt just right.
For what it's worth (in my humble opinion) the best gluhwein is at the Karlsplatz market. I suppose it's less gluhwein there and more delightful concoctions with all sorts of liquor and magic.
I'm glad you enjoyed the article, Daniel. Fall is my favorite season in Schonbrunn, too. (I love shuffling through all those leaves!) And the Karlsplatz Christmas market is my overall favorite--I plan to write about it in the next post. (And the gluhwein I had there a few nights ago was delicious!)
My parents are coming to visit next week for THREE weeks and oh my goodness, it'll be a challenge. I'm going to drag them to all the Christmas markets and force them to load me up on gluhwein, it'll be the only way to get through it!
What a wonderful description of my hometown dear Clarice, enjoy your stay and maybe we can meet at "Winter in the city" for a Marillenpunsch! Hugs, Petra
Thank you, Petra. I'm really glad you enjoyed the post--especially since you are a native! It would be lovely to share a Marillenpunsch with you. We plan to return to Vienna in February. Maybe we could do it then?
Clarice, the Palm House (my favorite I think), the Roman Ruin, the Christmas shop, the candles, the decorations, the foods--what a gorgeous display of everything there! And also love reading the history. And of course all the photos, simply stellar (and good news on the arm).
Thank you, Jeanine. I'm glad you liked the article and the photos and the history, too! The arm still hurts a little, but is much better and slowly getting its range of movement back. Thank you for remembering it.
Vienna is divided into districts. The first district is the heart of historical Vienna. This is where the Rathaus (city hall), major churches, palaces, and museums are located. From there, the others wind around the first in a spiral. The 13th district is actually more toward the edge of the city to the west. Hence Schoenbrunn was the summer palace! The major winter palace was the equally imposing Hofburg Palace, in the first district.

You will love the market when you go!

A great review! It would be even more romantic if it snowed...
There's still a possibility that it will! I just checked, and they are currently predicting snow for Dec. 26, 27 and 28.
An almost-white Christmas :)
I have a nice itinerary for my next visit, thanks Petra!

What a lot of research! But enjoyable I am sure. And glad you're still on the mend.
What an amazing place and time to visit. Your pictures give an idea of just how huge the park is. Is the rest of Vienna spread out around it?
